“Heartache” — C.Birde, 1/17
Vulnerable organ,
the heart…
my heart…
mosaic of Being,
bound
by slim seams
of lead,
barbed-wire,
twining vines,
and foxfire.
At once
weakened
and strengthened
by each break,
each blow,
each love,
each unexpected
tear.

Very powerful my dear friend, you will forever be in my heart, always 💙

Thank you, Anya…sometimes, it’s our vulnerabilities that give us strength…!

the drawing and the poem are interesting because they are so creative and surprising. too often writers use the heart as an image of something either breaking or swelling. (it always seems to be doing one thing or the other.) you show (rightfully, i think) how the heart is a “mosaic of Being,” an organ of many disparate parts, from barbed wire to twining vines.

Thank you kindly, Michael — I really enjoyed working on this drawing…words first, image in support of words. And I agree with you — we should lift the limitations and restrictions (swelling and breaking) that are so often placed on the heart!
