A sadness I know too well after the destruction of our forests and surrounding area by Hurricane Fiona last fall. Giants in our yard no longer there. We still grieve and will for a long time to come.
Each year, with each series of stronger storms, the casualties increase. My neighborhood is an older one, with mature, established trees standing in isolation — perfect hurricane and lightning magnets. Our neighbors will plant an understory flowering tree, and we’ll plant a native Hackberry, but we’ll never see their fully glory. It feels like I’ve lost yet another elder… in a sense, I think we all have. Best wishes for your arboreal future 🌲🌳🌲
